Being prepared to be amazed

Trips to India are always very exciting and eventful, as you can imagine. As I prepared to go to India this time, my to-do list included the ninth graduation ceremony of the Koinonia School of Ministry, checking up on the girls at the Girls Home, visiting Dr. Swati at the Koinonia Medical Clinic, meeting with the KSOM faculty, and doing ministry at the Koinonia Fellowship church in Pune. Along the way I hoped to find the time to sit and talk and catch up with my mom and dad and other family members. Because these trips keep me so...

Looking to the future

After this year’s Pastor’s conference was over and the last pastor’s family boarded the train for home, the team from the US drove out of town to the 8-acre parcel of land that we own in the foothills of the mountains. We have built a small office and a storeroom for the rice and peanuts that we grow on the property. It was time to reflect on all that the Lord has done in the past 15 years. From small beginnings He has grown the India Connection into a thriving organization that is having an impact across the country. Lord...

A Movement of the Holy Spirit

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! Psalm 133:1 November was a time for the shepherds to gather together in India. Taking advantage of the national Diwali holiday, pastors and their families travelled from around the country to participate in two conferences, our annual Pastor’s Family Conference and the first-ever Koinonia School of Ministry Alumni Conference. Please pray that the Lord would continue to knit our hearts together and unite us to accomplish His purposes, not by might, not by power, but by His Spirit. Alumni Conference: Stir Up the Gift of God Fifteen graduates of KSOM returned to Pune to attend the Alumni Conference. In all, 35 young men and women have graduated, and they are all actively serving the Lord. This was a time of fellowship as the pastors and their young families reunited with college classmates, worshipped the Lord and deepened their knowledge of ministry issues. The theme of the conference was 2 Timothy 1:6, “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” One of the primary missions of the India Connection ministry is to provide ongoing support of these young harvest workers. Their needs are many as they face challenges of starting ministries, often in remote areas with limited resources. Pastor Joseph visits each of the pastors...

We have work to do!

By Ben Hiwale In the airplane on the way to India, I had some time to reflect on the India Connection ministry and prepare both a prayer list and task list for my time there. When I reviewed the two lists just before landing, I realized that they were completely redundant; everything on my to-do list was also a prayer request! Let me share some of my experiences with you, and let you know how you can pray for the work that God is doing in India. Pastor Joseph is fond of telling us on these mission trips to...

Breakthrough!

Because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many adversaries. 1 Cor. 16:9 Had Paul just said, “a great door for effective work has opened to me” and stopped, we would have every cause to jump and shout. However, notice how he continues: “and there are many adversaries.” The door was opened, and it was not an ordinary door. It was a breakthrough moment. The moment the enemies saw that the door was opened, they showed up to close it, hindering Paul from going through it. We are at the edge of breakthrough – are you going to cross over? We have all struggled to get to this point – will we follow the Holy Spirit into our destiny, or will we hold back and just test the waters? As Christians we are called to surrender to God, to trust Him to direct our paths, and to submit to His lead and plans for our lives. But do you ever feel maybe just a little envious of those who get to do whatever they want? To make all their own choices and decisions, and to live just they please? This would seem like such freedom, and after all isn’t freedom what Jesus bought for us at the cross? It can be easy to believe that the commitment to wait on the Lord and...
