One of the great things about participating in the India Connection ministry is the opportunity to form friendships that cross oceans and span cultures. We recently launched a program to bring girls in the US together with the kids at the Girls Home of Pune. Every one of the 25 girls in our care were matched up to a penpal of similar age at several local churches. We will translate the letters into the local language and distribute them. In the future we will not need to translate, as the girls in Pune will need to practice their English.
There is a continuous need for people to “adopt” the Girls Home and provide for their care and education. Two of our girls graduated from high school this year and will continuing their schooling to get licensed as a nurse and teacher. Pastor Joseph has hired a couple of part-time teachers to give the girls some extra English and computer training. Pray that the Lord will provide 6-8 laptops for this purpose.
It has been a year since the girls arrived. Pastor Joseph says he can hardly recognise them! They have all thrived under the loving care of the staff and local volunteers. In the coming weeks some of the girls will get visits from their guardian. They can also request a visit of two weeks away from the Home. Pray that all these things go well.
